Sam Parrini
Sam Parrini, 23, born in Greenville, SC, began exploring his passion for music at age 3 when he decided he wanted his mom, Sherry Parrini, to teach him piano. He started violin at the age of 4 with Joanna Mulfinger and later studied with Jennifer John. He completed his Bachelor's at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, where he studied under Axel Strauss, and is now pursuing a Master’s degree at the Juilliard School under Laurie Smukler.
Most recently, Sam performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the McGill Symphony Orchestra as the winner of the 2021-2022 McGill Strings Concerto Competition. In the same year, he received 3rd prize in McGill’s Golden Violin Competition. A recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award with an appearance on NPR’s From the Top, Sam received 2nd prize in the 2019 McGill Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Theia String Quartet, and has performed as a soloist with the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra, the Clemson University Symphony Orchestra, the Greenville County Youth Orchestra and the Carolina Youth Symphony. He has performed for masterclasses held by renowned artists like Paul Kantor, Mihaela Martin, Martin Beaver, and Benjamin Bowman, and has attended numerous festivals, including NYO-USA, NYSOS, Kneisel Hall, and the Music Academy of the West.
